June Update

The month of June kicked off the start of the 2019 Summer Camp season. Full day summer camp was held at Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center (SRAC) and Morgan's Gymnastics.

15 children were presented scholarships in the month of June to attend full day summer camp. Seven children enjoyed activities that included swimming from 8:30 to 4:30 at SRAC and eight children participated in gymnastics and other activities at Morgan's Gymnastics from 7:30-5:30.

June also kicked off sports camps sponsored by Smithfield Parks and Recreation. 3 scholarships were given to attend a tennis camp held at Smithfield Community Park, that was coached by the 30-yr. experienced Coach Jimmy Jernigan. Camp dates were June 24-26 from 6:00-7:00 pm. Additionally, 2 scholarships were granted for a P & R sponsored camp that will be held on July 22-25 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. Children will participate in arts and crafts at Smith Collins Park. Camp will end with an ice cream social.

Johnston HealthQuest offers private and group swimming lessons. 5 children will receive five 30-minute private swimming lessons. Children will learn to swim by teaching breathing techniques, swimming styles, and the importance of pool safety.

Our cultural activities, dance and drama held productions that were outstanding this month. One of our recipients performed at the Artistry In Motion 2019 Dance Showcase that was held in Goldsboro at the Paramount Theater. Another of our recipients shared the stage at the Neuse Little Theatre's production of The Little Mermaid, Jr.
