The 4th Annual Annie D. Jones Child Enrichment Fund 3k Walk fundraiser event was held on April 27 at Smithfield Community Park. 35 participants walked for the cause, on the Greenway Trail. 14 volunteers were present to assist with set up, registration, photography, and for moral support. A special "Thank You" to Gary Johnson, Director of Smithfield Parks and Recreation, Shannan Parrish, and Jen, the photographer for your early morning assistance.
The Walk began with a prayer, prayed by Ralph Edwards and a salute to our root and namesake, the late Mrs. Annie Lou Dublin Jones. 4 purple balloons were released in memory of Annie and to signify the start of the 2019 Annual 3k Walk.
$1,200.00 was raised to fund scholarships for underprivileged children to participate in recreational and cultural activities. provided by SRAC, Smithfield Parks and Recreation, Morgan's Gymnastics, Artistry In Motion, Johnston HealthQuest, Neuse Little Theatre's Summer Drama Program, and Mary Ann Morgan Warren, piano Instructor.
Two scholarships were given to attend Spring Break Soccer Camp, sponsored by Smithfield Parks and Recreation. Children attended camp on April 22 - April 24 from 9;00 a.m. until Noon, coached by Kate McGrath, SSS Varsity Boys & Girls Soccer Coach and Pablo Jiminez, Smithfield Middle School Soccer Coach.
Three children received scholarships to attend two weeks of SRAC full day Summer Camp, beginning June 3. Children will participate in Art, Swimming, Sports, and Outdoor Fun from 8;30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
