June Update

The month of June brought HOT temperatures and the start of summer camps and other enrichment activities. A total of 26 scholarships were given for summer camps and sports activities sponsored by SRAC, HealthQuest, and Neuse Little Theatre Summer Drama Camp,
Opening date for the 2018 SRAC summer camp was June 11. Seventeen scholarships were given to attend two weeks of full day summer camp. SRAC summer camp involves children in activities such as, Outdoor fun, Art, Sports and Games, Swimming, and so much more.
One scholarship was presented to participate in Basketball Camp. This camp involves children learning techniques such as, Balance, Dribbling, Shooting, Passing, and Basic Footwork. Basketball Camp was June 18-21 from 9:00-Noon.
The Engineering LEGO Camp began June 18-22 and 3 scholarship recipients attended. Children were instructed on how to build engineer-designed projects and how to use special pieces to create their own unique design. The camp was held at Smithfield Parks and Recreation from 1:00-4:00 p.m.
Two children attended the 2018 Neuse Little Theatre Summer Drama Camp. This camp teaches children acting techniques, technical skills, theatre terminology, and everything it takes to create the theatre experience. Everything learned is showcased in a production at the end of the session. Pictured above are two scholarship recipients who performed in the production of Jungle Book Kids. It was a spectacular performance!
Johnston HealthQuest offers private and semi private swimming lessons. Three scholarships were presented for 5 one-hour private lessons. Children learn to swim or improve their swimming skills by teaching breathing techniques, swimming styles, and the importance of pool safety.
