March/April Update

Batter up! It's Baseball season. We've been busy registering our scholarship recipients for T-ball and baseball. Three scholarships were presented.
Spring has sprung and so has all the fun activities that the warm weather brings. SRAC registration for Summer Camp began on March 1, this year; a whole month earlier than the previous year. A mad rush pursued to identify children in the East Smithfield Community to offer scholarships to attend two weeks of camp. A BIG SHOUT OUT to Judy Goodwin for her tireless effort with this task. 10 children received scholarships and will attend all day camp from June 12-23. Registration for two other camps that are held in Smith Collins Park was announced. So far, 14 scholarships have been given. There's room for more! Contact us if you know any families with children age 6-8 in the East Smitfield community.
There's music in the air, again. A scholarship was offered to 1 student to begin piano lessons taught by Kerry Clayton of First Baptist Church. This is the third Annie D. Jones scholarship for private piano lessons. Our namesake, the late Mrs. Annie D. Jones is smiling, for this activity was dear to her heart.
April also brought scholarships to 3 children for a drama summer program. The Neuse Little Theatre's Summer Drama Program teaches acting techniques, technical skills, theater terminology and so much more. Children will participate in a stage production at the end of the summer program. Wow! It doesn't get any better than that.
last but not least, the 2nd Annual Annie D. Jones Child Enrichment Fund 3k Walk is planned for April 29, 2017. This is our major fundraiser. Many people have registered to walk the Green Way Nature Trail again this year. We are expecting a large turnout and all proceeds will go to funding scholarships for the East Smithfield community children to attend recreational and culture activities.
