September Update

September continued to bring extreme heat but, football, cheer leading and soccer practices pursued. Parents and children endured the high temperatures during the grueling practices that, in the end, produced positive results. Congratulations to the Red Devils football team, cheer leaders and the Smithfield youth soccer team for your victories. As always, thanks to the parents for your efforts, and thanks to the Smithfield Parks and Recreation staff for your continued support and cooperation with the Annie D. Jones Child Enrichment Fund organization. A special "Thank You"! to Jan Ashley, for going above and beyond.

To date, two scholarships have been offered for five weeks of private swimming lessons sponsored by SRAC. Lessons have not been scheduled at this time but, should begin by early October. We are diligently seeking more children in the East Smithfield community to offer scholarships for swimming lessons. We see this activity as a crucial one for our children to learn at an early age. SRAC youth basketball registration is open until October 21. We are searching for boys and girls, ages six through eight , who live in the East Smithfield community to offer scholarships.

By the close of September, the Annie D. Jones Child Enrichment Fund organization had awarded forty five scholarships for participation in recreational and cultural activities. This could not have been accomplished without the support of all of those who contributed to this cause. We continue to thank you for your continued support and encouragement.
